Frank Connet who lives and works in Chicago is known for his textile works which he shows locally and nationally from Chicago to Santa Fe. Having appeared in numerous articles from the Chicago Tribune to Architectural Digest to Fiberarts, etc., his works are not only in private hands but in public collections including The Art Institute of Chicago. His textile works are represented through Douglas Dawson Gallery in Chicago.
It should be noted that Connet has had a life long interest in ancient and rare textiles. He is also know nationally for his special abilities in textile restoration. The intertwining of his talent as an artist and his skills in restoration has be influential in the output of his own work since his student days at the Kansas City Art Institute.
When he needs to work through his ideas, he turns to the medium of watercolor. His application of color and forms create a multilayering of space where the viewer's eye weaves its way forward, backward and around. Taken to a literal point of view, the compositions appear to be fabrics that have been magnified so that one has the ability to see how the fibers have accepted the dyes which transform them from ordinary to extraordinary.
