Art Center of Sarasota – OFF THE WALL

The Art Center Sarasota is an education hub offering numerous classes and a varied exhibition program. OFF THE WALL is a fundraiser where artists created and then donate 5” x 7” postcards. The cards are displayed without the public knowing who created them. All the postcards are priced at $ 50 each. When someone purchases a card they will then get the details on the artist. This is a very interesting way to equalize the viewing. No one knows if the postcards they are seeing are by a famous artist or an emerging artist.

I had the pleasure of being asked to participate on March 13, 2020. My intention was to create just one card. However once I decided how I was going to create it, I found a rhythm and worked on several at the same time. I chose to cut up my own 5” x 7” art postcards which I have printed over the years. In the end, I collaged five postcards from which I chose three to donate to the ACS. This endeavor gave me a break from my drawings and helped re-energize that pursuit.

Here are photos of the postcards that I donated and views from the exhibition.

Photographs of the Exhibition.

Here are some snapshots of the exhibition. Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 virus, the event was cancelled. So when you see the photos, you will see some missing cards. People who had pre-paid tickets were called to come in prior to the event and make selections. The next day the public was invited in to make their selections. Those not sold will be posted on the ACS web-site and available to be purchased. Anyway, here are two walls of the four which had a grid of cards installed.
